SEA CAVES

Sea caves you can only reach by paddle

The ria coastline hides caves that cannot be approached from land. On calm days we paddle inside, where the air is cool and light from the entrance plays across the water.

Whether we can enter depends on the sea conditions that day. On rougher days we guide you only as far as the entrance for safety.

We welcome families and groups of friends. Around six people is the most comfortable size for a tour. For larger groups, please contact us in advance.

Cancellations by the customer on the day before or the day of the tour cannot be accepted; a 100% cancellation fee applies

ON THE DAY

On the Day

Tours take approximately two hours.

    Check-in

    Please arrive at the meeting point. You change on site. Not every beach has a changing room, so we recommend wearing your swimwear under your clothes.

Participants must be at least 140 cm tall. Elementary school children are welcome. Board rental and insurance are included in the price. Facilities (toilets, showers, changing rooms) differ by beach. We will let you know when the location is confirmed.

Only in the sea

On clear days you can watch shoals of fish from the board. There is also time to float in the shallows and look beneath the surface. Please bring your own goggles or snorkel.

Safety

Most of our participants have never tried SUP before. We run every tour with the following in place.

    Everyone wears a life jacket, including strong swimmers.

    We cover technique and safety on land before entering the water.

    Staff accompany every group

    Experienced staff accompany every group. You are never on the water alone.

    We start in the shallows where you can stand, then move on gradually.

    Cancellation for rough conditions

    Tours run in rain, but we cancel for rough seas, strong winds or high waves — decided by the day before.

    We choose the site for the day

    We choose the calmest of several beaches based on the day's conditions.

    Insurance

    We are covered by domestic travel accident insurance with Sompo Japan. The premium is included in the tour price.

    SUPA certified instructor

    Tours are led by an instructor certified by the Stand Up Paddleboard Association of Japan (SUPA).

FAQ

How much does it cost?
SUP tours are ¥7,000 (tax incl.); ¥6,000 for elementary school age and under. Board rental and insurance are included. Wetsuit rental is ¥1,000 extra. Cash only.
Are there any requirements?
Participants must be at least 140 cm tall. Elementary school children are welcome. There is no upper age limit.
When do tours run?
April to November, subject to sea conditions.
Where do tours take place?
Across the Wakasa Bay area around Obama and Takahama, including Wada Beach in Takahama.
Do you accept groups and school trips?
Yes. We have hosted school excursions and corporate trips. Contact us to discuss numbers and format.
Is there parking?
Yes, there are 20 spaces at the shop.
What are your opening hours?
11:00–20:00, closed on Tuesdays.
What is the minimum age?
We use height rather than age: participants must be at least 140 cm tall. A reduced rate applies to elementary school children.
What should I bring?
Swimwear, a change of clothes, a towel, a hat, sunscreen and drinking water. Water shoes or trainers you don't mind getting wet are recommended. If you wear glasses or sunglasses, please bring a retainer strap. Many guests bring their own goggles or snorkel — the water is often clear enough to watch fish beneath the board. We do not rent these items.
